Inclusive Design

project outline

Over a year and a half, I looked at how design can be more inclusive for people with visual impairments. Based on my own experiences with colour blindness and poor depth perception, I wanted to explore how everyday visuals like signs and artwork affect those with sight loss.

I began by focusing on visual impairments, especially color blindness, and how many people don’t even realise they have it. I explored how these conditions are diagnosed and how we can raise awareness to encourage regular eye tests through the creation of posters in a variety of different styles to target specific demographics.

The second part looks at real world examples of design, analysing what makes them effective/their short comings. I looked at road signs, creating a short pamphlet breaking down its successes, as well as the London Underground and its issues with accessibility.

The final outcomes include posters, infographics, and merchandise graphics that raise awareness and promote accessibility.

A link to my final website where I conduct research in the form of surveys and fully breakdown design choices can be found at the bottom.
